Hi there!

My name is Toby Greenall and in 5 weeks I am running the London Marathon. This madness is all in aid of CLIC Sergeant’s Home from Home “Billy’s Appeal”. 

Billy is my cousin and a few years ago he was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumour, a cancer that then spread to his lungs from his kidney, at the age of 3 1/2. After 18 months of gruelling treatment including chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy he managed to pull thorough and has finally got the “all clear”.

We are helping raise money to create a Home from Home in Nottingham. The Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, is a specialist paediatric oncology centre for children. It was this hospital that Billy had to visit for his treatment. For Billy it was dreadful but it was the balance of maintaining a ‘normal’ family life that was so difficult and draining for all involved. CLIC Sargent is a unique charity that gives families all the support they need to care for a child with cancer. Trained professionals are on hand to help, advise and financially support every family affected by childhood cancer in the UK.

In many regions CLIC Sargent Home from Homes are available free of charge to all families who have a child diagnosed with cancer. The financial strain placed on a family travelling many miles for treatment each day, not to mention the practicalities associated with caring for other siblings mean the overall emotional pressure is immense. A place where the whole family can be together, away from the confines of the ward but within walking distance of the hospital in case anything goes wrong is crucial.
