I watched this show each night in its entirety. There was no doubt in the minds of the directors and live audiences that Team LaBelle was far superior to the other teams.
One of the biggest reason many people do not follow American Idol is the voting from the public. Public voting is a popularity contest and allows for manipulation. To allow ten votes from the same residence or email address is unreasonable. Most homes, today, do not have ten residents. Thus, the effect is to allow the same few people to vote as many as thirty times (ten times on the cell phone, ten times on the home phone, and ten times online). Moreover, as was evident in the early editions of American Idol, those same voters essentially voted against the strongest team to eliminate the competition for the weaker team.
The singers who performed for Team Lashay, in my humble opinion, consistently failed to hold simple notes. Their voices crumbled, they were unable to move from one octave to another, and there were more than a few times when it seemed they were screaming without a care for the concept of singing a particular note. While they were diverse, each of the lead singers failed to hold notes at crucial points in each performance. In other words, they choked. Not one single lead had a clear voice, each lead sounded like he or she had been smokers and had scratchy sounds. Sounded like they were singing the blues in a smoky bar in Kentucky.
Team Shelton was the second best team, consistently. Their arrangements were diverse, the choreography was very good, and the lead singers could clearly be understood. But because their director is a country music star, the urban voters did not relate to him.
While I watched this segment, I am confident I will not watch future editions because the most talented team could not win. That being the case, why follow the farce?
