Gat,

Get a life. There are lots of excellent charities that only serve a specific community. There is a big need for charities that help the poor and this charity is one of them. It is not limited to African Americans. The charity is located in an area the poor community is predominately African American.

Well Gat,
Your ignorance is known by all now. In case someone forgot the tell you, the rate of death among African American women is five times the rate of deaths for the nearest subgroup, Hispanics. The rate of death is more than 7 to 1 between African Americans and Whites. Thus, your proposal, to make sure everyone get a bite of the apple maintains the status quo. So it begs the question, why do you think it is okay for African American women to die of cancer at such a disproportionate rate? Do you even care? Or, could it be, that you are completely unfamiliar with the fact that more women, particularly women of color, are uninsured. In case you had not heard, cancer screening tests are not cheap like flu shots. More clinics will not even schedule an appointment for a test unless they have verified your proof of insurance coverage. Thus, I conclude by surmising that you may not be racist, but you sure as hell come across as not giving a damn about the disproportionate rate of deaths among women of color. Could I conclude that you are not a woman of color and you live in an area where clinics provide free cancer screenings and women are insured? Could it be possibly that the only thing you heard was that Patty LaBelle was actually trying to help the poor and omitting the insured, white middle class? Shame on you for your dearth of information. Shame on the voters who only wanted to insure that no woman of color gets a leg up to compete for her life. You must have voted repeatedly!!!

One gets the impression that Miss Patti shot herself in the foot and may not have mentioned that her charity also administered to non-Afros Americans because she was too optimistic about winning. Whatever, I still feel her choir was a notch above the rest with due to her direction.

There is another blog on here where a poster clarifies that this charity, in fact, does not exclusively serve African-American women.
