Growing up geek

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007, 11:39 am

Now a days being a "geek" has become more of a fashion trend than the stigma it once was. Wearing button down shirts, glasses, and sweaters has become a popular clothing style so much so that actors in Hollywood have dressed this way for premieres, photoshoots, and the MTV movie awards. When I walk into my local Anchor Blue and see the almost the same outfit my mom tried to force me to wear for my junior high yearbook photo something has changed. Now don't get me wrong I am glad that "geek chic" has made it wear more kids can fit in I feel that people don't understand what it was like to grow up a geek before being a geek was cool.

I will take you through a scenario in the day of a life of an original geek.

1. Wake up

2. Put on untrendy clothes

3. Walk to bus stop (avoiding known spots where you know the bullies will beat you up)

4. While waiting for bus get made fun of and pushed around by said bullies

5. Sit by yourself on front of bus (allowing a quick escape when bus gets to school)

6. Go to library or computer lab (this helps two-fold: no one can beat you up in there, plus your friends are usually there)

7. Go to class (avoid known bully spots)

8. Repeat step 7 till lunch

9. eat lunch (keeping eye out for bullies since they are now going everywhere)

10. If no bullies find you continue to step 12. If not go to 11

11. Get pushed around, made fun of, punched, depending on their mood- trashcanned

12. Go to library or computer lab

13. Repeat step 7 till end of school

14. Get on bus

15. Repeat step 5

16. Try to get home as fast as you can (run if nessecary)

17. If caught by bullies continue to

18. After another thrashing head home

19. Get home and do homework

20. Watch TV or play videogames

21. Go to bed
